- During my voyage on the HMS Beagle I will go to three main sites to study evolution
- During his five year voyage, Darwin observed Tortoises, Finches, and; many other organisms
- These finches' beaks have evolved to be suited for the island they live on. These adaptations help them gather their food.
- During Darwin's time at the Galapagos Islands he observed the many different beak types of finches. He noticed that the beak types changed due to the food available on the island.
- He reasoned that these changes must happen over time, beginning his theory of evolution.
- This tortoise looks much different than the one from Pinta Island! Their necks have adapted to be closer to the ground. I wonder how the tortoise came to look like this.
- On the Galapagos Islands Darwin observed the different types of Tortoises and how each animal adapted to their island
- This organism looks similar to an armadillo but is much larger! I wonder why this died out and became smaller.
- Throughout his time in South America he found and observed many fossils. By finding fossils and remains of extinct animals he began to question why some species died out.
- From my time in Australia I have discovered many insects, observed many animals and have thought more about evolution and how animals have changed.
- While in Australia Darwin observed the land and how it was formed. He also saw many creatures that resembled rabbits and questioned why they were so similar.
- I believe that more individuals are produced for a generation than ones that will survive. From this, the ones that survive will pass down these surviving traits to the next generation.
- When Darwin returned home he began to analyze his findings and begin work on his book, "On The Origin of Species." Which talks about his theory of evolution.
