  • Lucretia Mott and Elizabeth Cady Stanton met at the World Anti-Slavery Convention in London during 1840. They sparked a bond because they wanted to speak out against slavery, but were forced to sit on a balcony behind a curtain, concealed from speaking.

  • Women need more rights, we were shuttered away, unable to speak out!
  • We graduated college and still aren't accepted!
  • If we advocate for the end of slavery and black rights, then black women rights, then women rights, we could make a change
  • After applying to 29 colleges to become a doctor, Elizabeth Blackwell got accepted, graduation top of her class. Despite this, Elizabeth couldn't get hired anywhere.

  • When Lucy Stone graduated from Oberlin College in 1847, she was asked to write a speech. However, she wasn't allowed to read it, and it had to be read by a man.
  • Results
  • These 4 women then met at a Seneca Falls convention, in addition to others, including Frederick Douglass.
  • This powerful and talented group of leaders then drafted a Declaration of Sentiments, based on the Declaration of Independence.
  • This powerful campaign led to New York giving women the right to control wages and own property, and Indiana and Massachusetts passed Liberal Divorce Laws.
