  • The author is implying that you should think about criticism since dismissing it fully is vanity in and of itself. It's crucial to start with self-assurance. Allowing for criticism or unfavorable opinions from others means that we should evaluate them in order to develop ourselves.
  • The author advises the audience to be patient. He also warns the reader not to become a liar even if he or she is lied to. Finally, the reader should not pretend to be better than he or she is, nor should he or she speak in a way that does not represent who they are morally or spiritually if he or she is despised.
  • In the poem's third stanza, the idea of loss is prevalent. This time, our speaker gives advice to his listener on money, specifically how to manage things if he loses everything. When you take chances, this refers to gracefully letting go of your losses.
