  • "It isn't fair, it isn't right,"
  • The scene where the people get ready to throw stones at Mrs. Hutchinson depicts a dystopian story, because It showcases how the system(the lottery box) has allowed a cruel tradition to go on for several years. Everyone follows blindly, even though it's unfair and a cruel way to die. This lottery box determines whether a person deserves to live or die in this society, and that's dystopian.

  • School is over I feel free!
  • The scene where the kids are out of school for the summer and the story says "the feeling of liberty sat uneasily on most of them" is ironic, because in reality, they aren't entirely free of oppressive restrictions. They have the Lottery tradition that makes them have to kill someone at random the same day that they are feeling this "liberty," and that's quite ironic.
  • Skluzavka: 3
  • I'm the oldest man in town.Change is bad.
  • A scene that shows foreshadowing is when the book mentions that Old Man Warner was the oldest man in town. It would make sense for him to be the oldest unless something had happened that made him the last standing. He also foreshadows the lottery by being critical of changing or even getting rid of the lottery. He talks about how terrible it is to change which I believe foreshadows the terrible events before we learn what the ritual truly is. He tells you the meaning of the story, this is what happens when people continue to do traditions without change or without a second thought about what they are truly doing.
