- Hi, I'm Judith Woods. I am going to tell you about the Taino People! The Taino were people that lived in the caribbean. The Taino people have many things that they invented like the Hammac and they were also the first people to meet Christopher Columbus!
- Hi, today I am going to talk about the Taino People who lived in the Caribbean.
- When Columbus came to the North America, the first people he came into contact with were the Taino people. The Taino were people who lived on the Caribbean Islands. They mostly did not have to were clothes so they roamed naked. They sometimes wore paint on their bodys on some parts or the whole body. They put any colors they wanted on their bodys.
- The Taino people lived in the Caribbean which means that they were surrounded by water. They were the first people to interact with Christopher Columbus.
- The Taino people lived in neat villages comprised of up to 3,000 villages. These villages had town squares, shops and vendors, and many other things that we can find today.
- The Taino people had villages along their land in the Caribbean. Their villages had about 3,000 people living there. These people had huts like this neatly organized in areas.
- Since the Taino people lived in the Caribbean which is surrounded by water, they were known to use special canoes that they build out of a single palm tree. These were a big part of there culture and was a main part of their transportation.
- The Taino people used to make canoes out of an entire tree trunk. These canoes were a lot like the one here. Since they were on an island, to get to other parts of the islands they used boats and canoes to get around the most.
- The Taino people were known to bathe a lot. They were know to bath so much that the Spanish people and the government of the spanish made bans against bathing too much. This was a big shock to the Taino people that they were not aloud to bathe like their ancestor used to. This was also good for them since they lived in warmer climate they probably became dirty much faster. While the Spanish were not used to bathing so often, they did not even bathe every day or every other day!
- The Taino were people that used fishing nets to catch fish and turtle and other animals that live in the ocean. This was a primary food source for feeding all their people.
- The Taino people used to cultivate crops. Most of their crops were root crops such as cassava and potato. They had farms that had animals like birds. They used to also eat lots of fish and manatee. They used to catch these things with nets and used to cook them in their traditional ways.
