COLIN:Hey John, do you mind stopping by my office when you get a second?JOHN:Sure, I can stop by right before lunch.
I noticed that you’ve been showing up to work late multiple times a week for the past month. This is out of character for you.You’re a hard worker and do a great job when you’re here, however, it's starting to affect other employees. What’s been going on? We’ve worked together for 5 years, you know my door is always open.
As you know, my daughter is autistic. Recently, I’ve been having a really tough time getting her on the bus in the mornings. We are working with her individualized education program (IEP) to find a solution, but the entire process has been a challenge. My spouse started working on third shift, so I have to drive my daughter to school when she has these meltdowns.

John, I’m sorry to hear your family is going through this. I know it can seem tough at times, but IEPs are in place to make sure your daughter gets the best possible service. As I said before, you are a hard worker and I want to work with your situation as much as I can. Would it help if we temporarily moved your start/end time back one hour until you get your daughter situated?
