- In 1513, Spanish explorer Ponce de Leon arrived in what is now Florida, hoping to discover the Fountain of Youth.
- Statehood
- The oldest permanent city in the U.S., St. Augustine, is established in 1565.
- Space
- Florida became the 27th state on March 3, 1845. After joining the Confederacy in 1861, and then losing the Civil War, Florida was readmitted into the Union in 1868.
