- Prince Siddhartha was born in 563 BCE to a royal family. He lived very luxuriously with palaces and servants. hHis father was a powerful king who wanted his son to be the same. However, his mother had a dream before her son was born and the Brahmins (priests) told her that her son would be a great man. Either a ruler or Buddha.

- As Suddhartha grew, up he was given more freedoms. With these freedoms, he started exploring his surroundings. He discovered outside his royal life, there are three ways of suffering, sickness, death, and old age. After discovering these suffering people, he sets out another time and traveled and met with an ascetic, someone who gives up everything to find peace. He found the ascetic's wisdom useful and thought about it a lot.

- After he met with the ascetic, he was inspired to be one, he did not find a meaning in all this royalty. One night, he drove to a forest, and stripped himself of non-needs. He was barefoot, with a simple bowl of food, and simple clothing. While in the forest, he met more ascentics and started meditation. He started to fast for long periods, didn’t sleep, and denied himself basic needs. In enough time, he was unhappy with this life.
- He decided that being an ascetic is not the right path to enlightenment.He decided to be a middle class citizen and try to achieve enlightenment. On his 35th, birthday, there was a full moon and he felt that enlightenment was close.He then went on a walk until he reached a tree now known as the Bohi tree.He vowed to meditate until he reached enlightenment.A god tried to distract him and make him not reach enlightenment by sending him three distracting daughters. Throughout the night, he was meditating and realized all the truths about karma and the reincarnation cycle. By morning, he had reached enlightenment, and became the Buddha, or the awoken one. The truths he found under that tree are now the basis of Buddhism, and he would spend the rest of his life sharing these truths.

- Hmm, being an ascetic wasn't the right path to enlightenment. Maybe if I am middle class I have nothing to gain nor lose.
