- When schools had integrated in 1939, the president of West Virginia chose her and two other black men and offered them a spot at the state's flagship school. Although they had integrated things were still not 100% equal. although she did accept after the end of the first session ended she decided to leave school.

- Ever since Katherine was a little girl she loved to count. She counted everything, her steps, and even the dishes and forks when she had to wash the dishes. She also loved to learn her favorite subject was math. She started high school at the very young age of 13 and started college at 18.
- like i said even though thing had been 'equal' for a while doesn't mean that black people and other minorities were treated withe respect they were treated like second class citizens and it wasn't just about schools but abut the little thing like there were white only bathrooms or even for example when white people wouldn't consume thing made by minorities.

- She began to work after her husband became really sick. she had heard that naca ( NASA) was hiring black women to solve math. even tho it had been a few years since everything became integrated there was still bias over races.

- She graduated from college in 1937 with the highest honors. She graduated with a Ph.D. in mathematics and started teaching at an all-black school.
- unfortunately only after several years she did get the recognition she deserves , in 2015 nasa presented her an award. she was presented the presidential medal of freedom by president barack obama.
