- This story takes place on maple street, a quiet, American, tree lined, town on the planet Earth. Everyone is friendly, kids play games, eat ice cream, adults sit on their porches talk and enjoy life in the late summer.
- Climax
- It was Charlie! It was Goodman, his car!It was the boy, he knew!It was
- Suddenly a loud noise erupts over the small town blazing across the sky, members of Maple street gather around in terror, and awe. There is great confusion among the crowd, soon it is over, leaving no power, and no answers. Panic begins to settle into the crowd, one boy, Tommy, even suggests an alien invasion, this sparks the lively crowd into an endless spur of accusations.
- Falling action

- The crowd moves onto a fellow neighbor's house, Les Goodman hoping he will provide insight into the situation. When they arrive there they find him trying to fix his car, none are working. They begin conversing, asking questions, and panicking. All the while Les knows just as little as they do. Abruptly though, his car starts. This sends suspicion into the mob, people begin interrogating, questioning, and accusing this man of being responsible, they grow angry.
- Resolution
- Steve tries to defend the man, although soon after the accusations, of several more people, things begin to turn on and off. Charlie, the leader of the mob, stays suspicious and mad, about everyone he suspects, he remains on his toes ready to spring into action. After many arguments, one accusation after another, someone shouts, there was a figure appearing ahead. They got closer, Charlie raised his shotgun and pulled the trigger. Pete died right there, a man just sent into town to check what was wrong, and he was just murdered by Charlie. Angry civilians chased and injured ones they thought responsible.
- Soon the chasing and violence died down, although the accusations grew more. Charlie blamed it on Tommy, the child, some from the crowd wanted Charlie, for killing Pete, others still believed it was Goodman, some other names were spat out among the crowd however nothing resulted except an endless spiral of betrayal, false accusations, and a still nervous mob.
- Then there is no more crowd, just a strange spacecraft, with two unidentifiable life forms inside. They discuss how all it took to drive this peaceful society to madness was to power down their lights, and cars, and other things. A simple pattern like this was enough to make any boring, irrelevant, unimportant town such as Maple street, destroy themselves.
