  • The decisive confrontation, known as the Battle of Plassey, took place on June 23, 1757, on the banks of the Bhagirathi river near Palashi (Plassey), Calcutta, between Siraj-ud-Daulah's and the EIC’s. Siraj-ud-Daulah's formidable army, estimated at 50,000 soldiers with cannons and war elephants, faced Robert Clive's much smaller force of 3,000 men.

  • However, the battle was largely decided not by strength, but by treachery.Mir Jafar, true to his word to Clive, did not participate in the fighting, leading to the Nawab's overwhelming defeat.... A heavy downpour also hampered the Nawab's army, as they lacked adequate protection for their weapons. The battle lasted only 11 hours, ending with Siraj-ud-Daulah fleeing and eventually being put to death.
