The decisive confrontation, known as the Battle of Plassey, took place on June 23, 1757, on the banks of the Bhagirathi river near Palashi (Plassey), Calcutta, between Siraj-ud-Daulah's and the EIC’s. Siraj-ud-Daulah's formidable army, estimated at 50,000 soldiers with cannons and war elephants, faced Robert Clive's much smaller force of 3,000 men.

However, the battle was largely decided not by strength, but by treachery.Mir Jafar, true to his word to Clive, did not participate in the fighting, leading to the Nawab's overwhelming defeat.... A heavy downpour also hampered the Nawab's army, as they lacked adequate protection for their weapons. The battle lasted only 11 hours, ending with Siraj-ud-Daulah fleeing and eventually being put to death.
