Coraline moved into new apartments with her mom and dad. There was an upstairs neighbor named Mr. Bobinski and two downstairs neighbors named Miss Spink and MIss Forcible.
This scene is important because it sets the mood of the book and kind of introduces the characters.

Coraline stumbled upon the door in her living room had now led into a dark corridor instead of the brick wall earlier that day. When she walked through the other side someone that sounded exactly like her mother called her name from the kitchen. when she looked it was someone who looked exactly like her mother but with button eyes. She called herself the "Other Mother".
This scene is also important because it introduces the "Other Mother".

In this scene Coraline's Other Mother was upset that she found all the children's ghost eyes and wanted her to stay there forever. She turned into her original form (A Beldom) and tried to keep her there with her for good.
Lastly this scene is important because it shows who the Other Mother really is and her intentions.
