- Although both in history and the current news itself this divide was more focused between the White and Black people. And because of that, I used to believe racism only impacted one group. It was heartbreaking to see, but as a young naive girl, it felt like someone else's fight.

- After the outbreak of COVID-19, the news spread that the first case had originated in Asia. This caused many Asian communities to be blamed and accused for the global virus.

- But why do I still feel guilty...

- Well sweetie, when people are negatively impacted by an event, they tend to blame someone and unfortunately, it just so happened that the outbreak started in Asia, so now they are blaming all Asians. It's not our fault; you have nothing to worry about.

- Soon after the accusations about Asians were confirmed...
- Yes, the China virus has killed millions, but what I am more concerned about is our economy. What do y'all think about increasing tariffs?

- After Donald Trump announced Asians were at "fault" the racism and hate towards Asians only got worse.

- These attacks caused my family to be more cautious of our safety and for that reason, my dad would go out everywhere my mom went.
- Bye Tessa, I need to make sure your mom's safe so going with her to the grocery store. Make sure to stay inside and don't open the door for anyone.

- On the outside I presented myself as fine, but as soon as my parents would leave the house I was filled with unknown feelings. For the first time in my life, I was fearful for my safety and my family's.
- Is my family safe?Are those who live far away safe?
- I'm scared for my grandparents and the elders. What happensif they get attacked?
- WHY? WHY? WHY? How can anybody be so cruel? They are killing innocents

- What happens when I go outside will I get harassed? What will I do?
- In the end, I overcame those feelings and as years passed, I learned from the events I saw on the news.
- THE WORLD CAN BE EVIL . . . AND SOMETIMES EVEN HURT YOU.

- I learned how easily people can point fingers and blame others. I learned how dangerous and violent the world can be when they feel threatened and scared. It opened my eyes to see how racism can affect all ethnic groups.

- With my newly developed critical consciousness, I was able to see the beauty of the aftermath of such horrendous events. People were coming together and supporting each other.
- Overall, this grew my political consciousness and taught me to value diversity and inclusion.

- Breaking News! COVID-19 has not only taken the lives of millions but now created a divide between Asian communities and others.
- It has been reported that many believe this global pandemic is ASIANS FAULT!
- Yes, sadly people are blaming Asians.
- I knew it was the CHINESE fault!
- And taught me to be a better person from these experiences. It matured me to view the world through a more critical lens and grew my critical consciousness.
