Today on June 24, 2022, The Supreme Court has overturned Roe v Wade. A women's right to choose is NO MORE!
NO! NO! THIS CANT BE REAL?!?! GET ME OUT OF THIS NIGHTMARE!

Hello Dear, My name is Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Unfortunately, that was not just a bad dream... but your new reality. I've come to guide you. In fact, I know a few things about the Supreme Court myself.
I can't believe this is happening...
Roe V Wade has been overturned after decades. I'm here to help you fight for your rights, and learn more about how this will affect women everywhere. Let me take us back in time to the original Court Case : Roe V Wade 1973
Roe: My right to have an abortion is constitutional. I am entitled to my privacy. The 14th Amendment states, ''No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.''
General Attorney, Henry Wade : Jane Roe is in good health. ''A pregnant single woman (Roe) brought a class action challenging the constitutionality of the Texas criminal abortion laws, which proscribe procuring or attempting an abortion except on medical advice for the purpose of saving the mother's life'' (Henry Wade, 1972).
''In Roe v. Wade, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that abortion may not be restrictedin the first three months of pregnancy, could be restricted in the second threemonths only to protect the health of the woman, and, in the final three months,could be restricted or prohibited except for abortions necessary to preserve awoman’s life or health. Maternal health, in the context of abortion, was defined inRoe’s companion case, Doe v. Bolton, as “all factors—physical, emotional,psychological, familial, and the woman’s age—relevant to the well-being of thepatient'' (Justices Of the Supreme Court, 1973).
We rule in favor of Miss Jane Roe. The 14th Amendment grants all citiens their right to privacy. Abotion will remian legal. Our final ruling is 7-2.
WOW! I didn't know the 14th Amendment protected Jane Roe!
Now let me take you to some more recent events. On Septmeber 1, 2021, the state of Texas ordered a 6 week abortion ban... This means if anyone over 6 weeks pregnant tries to get an abortion... it will be illegal.
''Performing an abortion is now a felony punishable by up to life in prison in Texas after the state's trigger law, which has only narrow exceptions to save the life of a pregnant patient, went into effect Thursday, September 1, 2021. '' (Dobbs, 2021).Both the pre-Roe statute and the trigger law have only narrow exceptions to save the life of the pregnant patient. The trigger law specifically exempts the pregnant patient from prosecution.
I can't believe this is happening. This is a war on women. It's not fair!! What happened to our FREE country?
Now let me take you to current day to day life - post the overturn of Roe V Wade 2022.
American women no longer have the freedom to choose what they want to do with their bodies. The diagram above shows which states will keep abortion legal, ban by trigger laws, or be banned entirely. Alabama has banned abortion entirely (As shown in the diagram). If a doctor in a non-abortion state gives an abortion, they can be sentenced to life in prison. Those who seek abortion care can also be convicted.
Commercial Bias! When discussing Roe V Wade it's very easy for commercial bias to take over. The media plays a large role in controlling the narrative, and deciding what is deemed correct. When Roe V Wade was overturned media outlets were constantly implying all government officials were at fault, or that there was no issue with the ruling. For example CNN and Fox News are completely different news outlets. CNN created the bias that pro-life believers ''hate women'' and are creating a negative impact. While Fox News believed that pro-choice members were murderer's. The media 100% creates a bias towards worldwide events.
Resources for Post Roe Society - Not only are there support groups that can assist people going through this tough decison, but there are many resources that can provide clinical help. Organizations like Planned Parenthood provide abortion services, while also providing medical care for the fetus if the parent decides to keep it. Planned Parenthood accepts individuals with or without insurance. Other pro-choice organizations are ACLU, Abortion Care Network, Abortion Access fund, and the non-profit organization A is For. Reproductive freedom is essential to mainting democracy.
Fairness Bias!The overturning of Roe V Wade was directly impacting women. Not only were women the only group being targeted, but they were being discriminated against because of their sex. Not only were women losing the right to choose medical care for their bodies, but the media played a very large role in controlling the narrative. For example, the media can determine what side is seen as ''good or bad'' also known as pro choice vs pro life. ''The news media consistently use language and images that frame the entire abortion debate in terms that implicitly favor abortion-rights advocates'' (Los Angeles Times, 2022).

Why is choice important? We live in a democracy. Roe V Wade, was set back in the 1970's when women were not as respected as they are now. However with the cultural difference, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of Roe stating that it was an invasion of privacy and unconstitutional to ban a woman from having an abortion. Fast forward 55 years later, and the case has been overturned. American women were never meant to succeed in the eyes of the legal system. It's VITAL that women are given the choice to choose what to do with their bodies. Whether a woman is pro choice or pro life, it's important to let them exercise their rights to maintain freedom. As Volitaire once said, ''I disagree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.” Choice is what ensures freedom, without choice, we are not a democracy.
Bad News Bias!The media plays into a more ''pro-choice narrative.'' When reporter Susan Okie wrote on Page 1 of the Washington Post last year that advances in the treatment of premature babies could undermine support for the abortion-rights movement, she quickly heard from someone in the movement. “Her message was clear,” Okie recalled recently. “I felt that they were . . . (saying) ‘You’re hurting the cause’ . . . that I was . . . being herded back into line.” (Okie, 1990)
Studies show that teenage pregnancy's have a higher rate of being aborted. 40% of abortions occur because the parent is not financially stable. 36% of abortions take place because they were unplanned or unwanted. 29% of abortions take place due to partner issues/split ups. 15% of teenage abortions are due to health risks. Another main that women seek abortions is because their method of birth control failed. Whether thats pills, IUD's, protection, etc. ''But half of unintended pregnancies occur despite birth control. When faced with birth control failure, many people are conflicted over what to do'' (Very Well Health, 2022).
Thats so scary! So why do so many people get abortions?

Thank you for helping me learn about Roe V Wade, and my rights to privacy. I feel better knowing there are so many resources out there to help me if I'm ever in that situation. I'm glad that people like me are standing up for whats right. THopefully peaceful protests and law recontruction can help solidify Roe V Wade in the Constitution. We will not stop fighting until we are heard!

Roe V Wade was the landmark Supreme Court Case that established a woman's right to have an abortion. Since June 24, 2022, over protests have been held, and California governor - Gavin Newson included the right to an abortion in the California State Amendments. Change is possible, you must stand up for what you believe in!
