One Major Theme of"The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street"by Rod Sterling is that Mankind is its own worst Enemy. For Example,When Tommy Mentions to the Men who were going to the police station that whatever came overhead shut off everything and didn't want them to leave,Everyone thought he was crazy and ignored him and took it as a joke.Another Example is When Les Goodman's car started by itself The Residents turned suspicious and even though they were friends they turned their backs on each other and started to argue within themselves. They also started to blame each other about being monster's which then made the situation even worse.Lastly,When a mysterious figure entered town the residents were scared and out of fear charlie took a shotgun and shot the figure. As the group got closer they turned the body around and figured out it was Pete van Horn, everyone was in utter shock, and after charlie shot Pete the power to his house mysteriously turned back on.Everyone became violent and started to throw rocks, and pebbles throughout themselves and at windows, more specifically at charlie. In conclusion,Mankind is its own enemy as we saw when the Aliens shut off the power to Maple street everyone quickly turned violently arguing and turning their backs on their friends all for trying to find a scapegoat.
