Students get materials to make journal, begin writing, and begin short responses instructed by teacher
Learning Objective: Students will analyze journals of the naturalists they investigated without error
Today we will be going outside to learn the importance of journaling
Students, you will now look around the courtyard with "soft" eyes. Get a sense of the environment. Listen to the sounds, too. Think about how you feel and connect it to a past feeling or memory.
Teacher reads an excerpt called "Windstorm in the Forest" to the students
Think about what you just heard, Who can tell me what was the author describing?
Write a quick poem that describes how you feel in nature right now. You should use 2 of our daily vocab words
After you do your quick write, as a group, analyze a journal from a well-known naturalist and respond to the text by answering "What new knowledge and emotion did the author convey?"
Compare and contrast your journal to the naturalist's journal. What are the differences? Aside from feelings, why are these important in regards to nature?
Lastly, on your own, you are going to pick a naturalist's style to use to write about a favorite place, be detailed. Think of any organisms you saw and include that in your description
