- In the beginning it was all darkness, and papatuanuku and ranginui layed together. They had many children who layed between them..
- Skluzavka: 2
- The children were sick of staying squished between their mother and father so they wanted to make a change. Tumatauenga, the god of war and humanity suggested that they kill their parents..
- Skluzavka: 3
- Tawhirimatea, the god of wind and weather, wanted his parents to stay together, but they made the decision to split them up using their strength.
- They had many tries to split up their stubborn parents but nothing seemed to work. Rongomatane failed, Tangaroa failed, Humaiatiketike failed.
- Skluzavka: 4
- After many attempts, they almost gave up but Tane mahuta, the god of forest and man had a different approach. He layed down with his back on Papatuanuku and he forcefully pushed his legs against his father ranginui. It worked and ranginui got stretched through the heavens creating the sky. Papatuanuku stretched across the ground to make the earth we stand on today.
- Skluzavka: 5
- The children were happy for a little while until they realized how sad and angry their parents were. Ranginui was extremely sad to be separated from his wife Papatuanuku, so he was crying a lot, when it is raining, this is Ranginui thinking of his partner. Papatuanuku let out loud cries.

- This is how the world we live in now started. There are many different beliefs but this is the most common Maori belief for the begining of life and the world.
