  • While SpeechGeek may seem like a busy lady, constantly saving the city from the villain droid C-1000, she always makes time for her fan Club the "Communicators". In the speech communication process, the term communicators is used to denote every person involved during the speech communication process, including the audience. SpeechGeek compares this to how her fans, the communicators, inspire her to keep on saving the day even if they don't directly take part in her hero work. Similar to a speech, your audiences nonverbal behavior is their way of communicating to you even if they aren't participating in the actual speechmaking.

  • SpeechGeek is often called the "Messenger of Free Speech". As most people in Speechville know, SpeechGeek's main mission is to spread a "message of love on earth". But what exactly is a message? A message in the speech communication process is essentially the idea you are trying to convey to your audience through both verbal and nonverbal behaviors. The verbal portion is your speech, or the words you chose to convey your message. The nonverbal portion is how you look, your tone, and in some cases your behaviors. For example, how do we know that SpeechGeek isn't some alien looking to take over the world? The reason is because of the message she conveys to us. Firstly, she has direct told us that her message is one of love and peace. Secondly, she shows it through her nonverbal actions of how she dresses, how she carries herself in public, and through her action of saving others.

  • SpeechGeek has the power to Decode and Encode. In order to effectively get her message of peace across, SpeechGeek first has to visualize her idea. Encoding is the process of developing an idea, visualizing it, then bringing it to life either through materialization, like SpeechGeek does here with a duck, or through the more common method of verbal communication. Similarly, she also has the ability to break down and analyze ideas which is called decoding. Decoding is the process of understanding words through mental images, SpeechGeek uses it to analyze her foes speech and properly respond to it while we may use it to analyze and respond to people in our everyday lives
  • SpeechGeek's main attack is called "channel". In the speech communication process this refers to the means by which a message is conveyed. In SpeechGeeks case, she thinks of an attack which is then channeled into reality through her hands. We also have the evil droid C-1000 here. While he isn't attacking, his specialty is his ability to create "noise". In communication, noise is just anything that obstructs the message from being received or told. Noise can be physiological, psychological, physical, and cultural.

  • Finally, SpeechGeek reminds us to always think about worldview and context. Worldview is the lens through which a person sees the world in and as a result how they interact with it. Worldviews consist of 5 different components: Epistemology, Ontology, Axiology, Cosmology, and Praxeology. Additionally, we have context which is just circumstances surrounding the speech. Both of these determine how your audience responds to your message. For example, SpeechGeek understands that C-1000 was raised by an evil scientist who sees the world a lot different from most people. Given that context and knowing his worldviews, SpeechGeek takes the time to learn and understand him on a deeper level in order to get her message across to him.
