THE BOY IN THE STRIPED PAJAMAS Dalia Garcia C. This is Bruno. He is an eight year old boy whose family will move from Berlin to Auschwitz.
One day Bruno comes home to find his Maid, Maria, packing everyone’s belongings. Hello Auschwitz.
Bruno has a hard time adjusting to his new environment. He tries convincing his father to move back. Bruno decides to build a swing outside to play and to take some thoughts off his mind. He comes to injure himself when he accidentally falls off the swing. Pavel, who is a jew cleans him up. Pavel tells Bruno that he is a doctor. Bruno does not believe that because Pavel does not look like one to him.
Bruno isn’t allowed to go to the back of the house, but one day he wanders off to explore. He meets a boy named Shmuel sitting on the grass over on the other side of a fence. Bruno notices Shmuel’s clothing. “Why do you wear pajamas all day?” Bruno asks. “The soldiers took all our clothes.” Shmuel replies.
One day Shmuel ends up in Bruno's house. He is there to clean glasses.
Out of curiosity, Bruno asks his sister Gretel about the people on the other side of the fence. She tells him that it is a work camp and they are there because they are the enemy. Bruno also confronts his dad about this topic and his dad tells him that all he needs to know is that his work is very important to their country.
