- The Van Tassels were hosting a party, a special one. Everyone was going to be there, and I knew that Ichabod Crane wouldn't miss it for his life.
- After the party was over, Ichabod looked very sad. It was something to do with Katrina, it had to be. This was the perfect opportunity to get him gone.
- Dear Ichabod Crane, Leave Sleepy Hollow right this moment. Leave without a trace, and bring nothing with you.Your failure to cooperate will result in my return. We both know what will happen then.- The Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow
- He began to ride his horse away, back home. He looked frightened and began to sing. This was when I, dressed in all black and holding a large pumpkin in my hand, pulled up behind him. My long black coat was pulled high up, so it looked like I had no head. The Headless Horseman, in the flesh. This would be the best trick of all.
- After a minute he saw me. He began riding faster and faster, but my horse kept up with him the whole time. After a long time, I threw the pumpkin. It hit him, and he fell into the dust. Unconscious.
- He wasn't dead, that much was certain. I wrote him a note saying that he needed to leave, leave now, or I would come back. It was signed the Headless Horseman, so he would listen for sure. I left him there, and he was gone by morning.
- Finally, Katrina was mine! I married her happily, and I never saw or heard from Ichabod Crane again. The only way I knew that he had even existed in the first place was that villager’s occasional storytelling, telling of the mysterious disappearance of the schoolteacher Ichabod Crane.
