- The Cask of Amontillado is a story about two people named Montresor (Last Name) and Fortunato meeting at a carnival. Montresor wants to take Fortunato to see Amontillado inside the catacombs. It turns out, Montresor wants to kill Fortunato. The theme is about revenge. It has a creepy feel to it!
- Rising Action
- The conflict here is that Montresor seems to be annoyed with Fortunato. He says in the story "The thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne as I best could; but when he ventured upon insult, I vowed revenge." Something seems up here. What was it that bothered Montresor?
- Climax
- An excellent jest.
- But, there is a solution to this conflict. What's that you might've asked? Well, that is, of course, KILLING FORTUNATO! How? Let's just say that Edgar Allan Poe didn't call this story "The Cask of Amontillado" for nothing!
- Falling Action
- Before killing him though, he had to lure him in first. So to kill him, he tries to keep him drunk as much as possible. Also to lure him in, Montresor has to keep telling him "let's proceed to the Amontillado" and other things.
- The climax is Fortunato gets locked up in the Amontillado. Fortunato believes it's a joke but doesn't realize it isn't
- After that Fortunato dies.
