The British were in a lot of debt after the war so they thought it was a good idea to place taxes on the colonists to raise money.
Little did they know the colonists would be really upset about this new change.
The colonist were so angry they protested and even came up with the famous quote "No taxation without representation!"

The colonists anger got so bad that the king got worried. He sent an army out to control the colonists. They had a lot of power over the colonists and they thought it was very unfair

This is where the First and Second continental congress happened where they sent a petition to the king.The king declined the petition so they decided to reconvene.The revolutionary war started between them during this time period.
After the war the colonists decided it was finally time to go independent.They made the declaration of Independence and listed complaints about parliament and many other things you need to to start your own country or territory. Finally, the colonists were happy and enjoyed their new life in the states!
