When the atmospheric Nitrogen,(N2) goes into the soil, Nitrogen Fixing Bacteria turns the N2 into something plants and animals can use. This process is called Nitrogen Fixation.

Once the Nitrogen Fixing Bacteria fixes the Nitrogen, a plants' roots absorb the now usable Nitrogen. This process is called Root Absorption.

When the roots absorb the usable nitrogen, eventually, an animal will come along and consume the plant to get the nitrogen.
