Who were the Aztecs?

- Their capital city of Tenochtitlán, actually means: "the place of the fruit of the prickly pear cactus"

- Who were the Aztecs? What did they invent, what type of people were they and why should they be remembered to this day.
- The Aztecs settled in Tenochtitlán, their capital city. They settled here, because they saw an eagle sitting on a cactus, and recognized that as their god's sign of hope for new beginnings. They then built their first out of two pyramids on top of where the cactus stood. They built this city in a swampland by making a whole lot of chinampas (or floating farmland).
- The Azetecs invented a whole lot of things, like: corn, chocolate, vanilla, tomatoes, rubber (not rubber duckies), chinampras (floating island gardens or farmland) suspension bridges, the slash and burn technique, pyramids, and an early on version of basketball.

- The Aztecs were phenomenal fighters. They wouldn't fight at night and not usually during harvest season, but when they did they would almost easily win. They had around 25,000 warriors, they would use weapons such as spears, wooden swords, bows and arrows, They would only fight to take as many captives for sacrifices as they could, since they called it "their duty to god", and that god was their chief god, Huitzilopochtili, because they believed that he need human blood as a sacrifice.
- The Aztecs used these pyramids for sacrifices to their god. Most of these sacrifices were from captives of enemy tribes. These ceremonies, would include the slight spilling of the priest's blood. In a whole lot of the sacrifices include digging out the sacrifice person to be painted blue and then to dig his heart out of his chest while it's finishing it's last beats..
- The Aztec's governmental system was strictly built on levels. You had the emperors at the tops, then blood relatives, nobles or the rich, military generals and leaders, and priests. Next, there were soldiers, then artisans. Then the largest populated class of agriculturists and farmers. Then there was the lowest level of slaves and servants.
