  • He is Dinka. He can come with us
  • He will slow us down
  • Salva was in his school when suddenly rebel soldiers attacked. His teacher told the class to hide in the bushes from the soldiers.
  • Salva's Story, 1985-1991
  • Nya has to walk everyday to a pond to get water for her family each day for 7 months a year. There are many girls like her who also have to do this too. Some men come to there village one day and talk to the chief of the village about water. They set up a drill by a certain spot and start to drlll.
  • Salva's Story, 1991-1992
  • Salva? Is it really you?
  • The rebel soldiers catch everyone fleeing and separate them into groups based on age. Salva is put with the children, and they walk and sleep in a barn. Salva wakes up the next day alone, and realizes that they left him for being a child. He ends up staying with a lady for a while, before joining a group due to the lady having to let him go.
  • Nya's Story, 2009
  • Salva walks for a while and eventually, his Uncle joins the group and they are reunited. They journey accross the Nile River, then through the Akobo desert. When they get out of the desert, the group is raided by some men and they finish by killing Salva's Uncle. The group mourns his death, and they finish their journey by going to the refugee camp in Ethiopia. He stays there for 6 years before everyone is kicked out by the military.
  • Salva ended up leading a group to the refugee camps in Kenya. When the refugee camps were terrible there, Salva moved to a different camp called Ifo, but it wasn't any different. An aid worker named Micheal who was at there once taught him English, and eventually news came that some people would be going to America. Salva was one of those people. After about 7 years in America, he found his father's location and went there. After his visit, he ended up starting an organization for water for Sudan.
  • Yes father, it's me!
  • The men drill at the spot for a bit, and then finally they get the water. They make a well around it for the village and for all others who want to use it. Because of this, they are able to make things like schools and hospitals. Nya goes to thank the person who operated the operation and built the well, who is Salva.
  • Thank you for building the well. What's your name?
  • You're welcome. My name is Salva.
