Storyboard Tekst

  • Hi, Karen! I'm doing well. How are you?
  • Hi, Bill. How are you this morning?
  • Honestly, I'm quite upset. There are many teachers that are still teaching their students about learning styles even though the myth has been debunked.
  • Learning styles? A myth? Yeah, right. I've been teaching my students learning styles for 30 years. They always do well on their tests and assignments.
  • Learning styles ARE a myth. Our brains can learn in many ways. One study published in the educational psychology journal by Simon Cassidy shows that students' learning is dependent on much more important factors such as motivation and social interaction. These concepts should be the focus of your classroom. It is important that our students not only learn the content standards, but that they grow an appreciation for life and literature.
  • I'm not convinced by just one silly study. I need more evidence.
  • Okay, well have you heard of award winning journalist, Olga Khazan? In her article "The Myth of Learning Styles" in The Atlantic, she states that students may have a "preferred" learning style, but this does not improve individual study habits or test scores.
  • Hmm...perhaps you're right, Karen. Maybe our education system should look more into psychological research.
  • Yes! As educators, it is so important that we stay up to date with the scientific community so that we can teach lessons that are most effective for student growth.
