- In 1492 Columbus had to find a shorter water way to Asia but found a new world
- In 1519 Pineda and his crew were the first Europeans to see the Texas coast. Pineda made the first maps of the Gulf of Mexico.
- In 1519 Cortes defeated the Aztecs and built the city of Mexico right on the ruins. He became a very wealthy man and healped expand the spanish empire for New Spain.
- In 1527 Cabeza convinced Spanish rulers and other Spanish explorers that there was a city full of gold when ther was none. His origional reason to go was to build colonies in North America.
- In 1540 Cornando defeated the Zuni people and thought there would be gold in the city the same city Cabeza described but there was none. He felt like a failur because he found no gold but historians think he was a success because he made the first maps of the southwest.
- In 1679 king of France gave La Salle permission to claim new land he claimed louissiana but had a failure of settlement.
