- The mercury was then transformed into Methyl Mercury (its most poisonous form) by the bacteria living in the Bay.

- Methyl mercury were easily absorbed by the plants and those plants were being eaten by fish. Fish was considered a good food source for the public and especially cats in the area.
- Shortly after, thousands of people with strange symptoms got sick and died due to unknown reasons.
- Doctor, I can't see and hear anything. Also, my feet and hands are numb and I have a bad fever!!!!

- Moreover, the cats started acting weird, made horrific noises, and then died.
- After extensive research and investigation, researchers identified the cause of what was known as Minamata disease to be methylmercury poisoning acquired through the fish in the Minamata Bay.
