- The Logans are a black family in the south after reconstruction. The family's names were Big Ma, Papa, Mama, Stacey, Cassie, Christopher-John, and Little Man (Clayton Chester).
- Climax
- The Logan family bought 200 acres of land from Mr. Jamison. They have to try to keep Mr. Granger from getting the land.
- Falling Action
- Mama started going around and boycotting the Wallace store telling people to shop in Vicksburg.
- Resolution
- TJ went to the Barnett Mercantile with R.W. and Melvin and they killed Mr. Barnett.
- The Nightmen attacked TJ for robbing and killing Mr. Barnett.
- Papa and Mr. Morrison set the cotton on fire so that the nightmen would stop attacking TJ.
