"Hello Canada, and hockey fans in the United States..."
I don't know how I am going to make it through these horrible times... I can't spend all my time with Hewitt.
With all the poverty, lack of jobs and failing economy, I don't know how I'll ever be happy again
"Mary?..."
"He shoots, he scores!..."
I know this is a hard time for us. How are you feeling?
I was thinking we do something fun! How about we go see Wizard of Oz.... or the Dion Quintuplets!
Life is so miserable, mom, I just want to leave this awful reality. Is there anything I can do to feel happy?
That would be Wonderful!
During the 1930s, many people across Canada relied on entertainment such as the radio, and movies as a way to escape the terrible reality of the Great Depression. These distractions created a more liveable fantasy, ultimately helping most people get through this hard time.
There's a lot of people here.
Have you seen King Kong?Heard it's really good!
Mary, we are not the only ones experiencing hardship. Most Canadians across the country are seeking a better reality.
Other entertainments such as sports, especially hockey and baseball become more popular during this time, as well as Big Band  and Quintland, the land where people could watch the babies play.  Comic Books were one method of escape for children.
The development of the Greenscreen allowed an advance in movies, enhancing the effects, and allowing people to be carried away from their troubles into a new reality.
"And the Maple Leafs take the win!"
That movie was great! I totally felt like I was on my way to Oz!
Ya that made me feel good! I am so glad we have ways to escape our miserable reality.
I think I'll be able to make it through this after all!
