Inclined Plane: A flat surface raised at an angle (like ramp). Used to load up heavy instead of straight up.
Wedge: Made of two inclined planes put together. The 2 planes meet and form a sharp edge. used to push objects apart or cut.
Pulley: A rope over a wheel. Changes the direction of force. Increases the force applied force making the work easier.
Screw: A spirally grooved solid cylinder. An inclined plane wrapped around a cylinder. The less distance between threads the easier the work.
SimpleMachines
Lever-A simple machine made of a bar that pivots on a fixed support, or fulcrum. A applied by pushing down on one end of the results in a force pushing up at the other end. Makes a change in direction work easier 1st class lever: Fulcrum placed between the effort and load.2nd class lever: Load in between the effort and the fulcrum.3rd class lever: Effort in between the load and the fulcrum.
Wheel & Axle: A wheel that is attached to an axle. The two rotate together. A force is transferred from to another. The axle makes it move faster than the wheel in increase of speed that makes work easier.
