- This violent encounter sets the plot into motion for the rest of the book.
- The Disguises
- Ponyboy meets Cherry Valance, a Soc who he instantly connects with.
- Rumble
- Sodapop witnesses Darry hitting Ponyboy, an event that creates tension between all three of them and leads to further complications.
- Johnny and Ponyboy go undercover. Johnny bleaches and cuts Ponyboy's hair so he is no longer recognizable.
- PEROXIDE
- A giant fight breaks out between all the Socs and Greasers
