Sin had gone throughout the world. God still blesses Abraham and he makes Abraham's descendants into a great nation. God promises that Abraham would live in a land provided by God.
Abraham and Sarai went to live in Egypt for a while in slavery. This land was not that God had said for them to have. The people cried out to God, and he raised up Moses who led them out of Egypt.
Turn back to God!
Now eventually, they finally got the land that God promised them, but instead of living a life obeying God, and being blessed, they then turned their backs on God and worshipped false Gods instead.
Now the people asked for a king. God had made a promise that one of the kings, (David) that his family would always rule God's people. One day a king would come and bring the promised blessing to the whole world. This kind would be called 'the Messiah' or 'Christ'.
Most of the kings after David rejected God and led the people to worship idols. But God still loved his people. He sent prophets to warn them to turn back, otherwise they would be sent into Exile, away from the promised land. Unfortunately the people did not listen, and enemies Assyria and then Babylon, invaded and then wiped out Israel.
Eventually, some of God's people were able to return to God's promised land, and began the process of rebuilding, but it was never as good as it was before. By the end of the Old Testament God's people are still waiting, they are waiting for God's promises to be fulfilled. Where was their blessing? Where was their Messiah?
