- Edith how would you like to be in charge of the new school?!
- A war?!
- I'm not scared! I need to help the soldiers!

- I don't care what side these soldiers are from! We must help everyone
- Throughout the years Edith worked in many hospitals helping anyone that was sick. Edith was so popular in the nursing field that Dr.Depage recognized her. He had a very important job for Edith, to be in charge of Belgium's first nurse training school. Crowds of people cheered in excitement.

- Run straight ahead to make it to Holland!
- In 1914, Edith found out that the First World War was now taking place. Everyone in her country and family were scared and shaking from the news. However, Edith was not scared, but knew she had to help the bloody soldiers. She left her family and went to Brussels to help in the hospitals
- Fire at her!
- Patriotism is not enough. I must have no hatred or bitterness towards you.
- When Edith arrived at Brussels back to her hospital she started working in the Red Cross Hospital. Edith took care of war victims and war soldiers. The battle was bloody and the country was filled with tears and fear. Edith wanted to help anyone that came for help no matter who's side they were on
- After encouraging other nurses to help any injured soldier no matter who they are allied with Edith decided to do more. Edith helped British, Belgian, and French soldiers escape to Holland. She did this in secret to let them escape to a safer place. If Edith got caught she would get in big trouble.
- However, because Edith helped soldiers escape the country she was caught by a Belgian Spy. Edith was arrested and found guilty of treason. Edith cried that her eyes became puffy, but she said her famous last. Because of treason Edith was killed by a German firing squad.
