  • Summary
  • Setting
  • Character Traits
  • The book Bravelands by Erin Hunter involves three main characters; Fearless the lion, Thorn the baboon, and Sky the elephant. The story begins with a vision of a lion, a baboon and an elephant that Skywatcher, a vulture, sees. When Fearless earns his name, Titan challenges Gallant, the Pride leader, for leadership. Titan ends up winning and Fearless runs away, only to be carried off by an eagle but saved by some baboons and taken care of by them. Thorn has to participate in a test of where he would show his skills to his Troop. Thorn ends up being a Middleleaf, and when he brings Stinger some scorpions, and soon after learns that his Troop Crownleaf has died, he learns that the baboon he looked up to was a murderer. After losing her mother, Sky was taken care of by her herd as they travelled to the "Plains of Our Ancestors", and when they got there, the news had rang that the Great Mother has been murdered.
  • Conflict
  • The setting of Bravelands is the dry, hot and sandy grass of the Savanna in an unknown time. The animals were here for thousands of years.
  • Plot
  • Each character in this story has a unique and interesting personality. Fearless the lion is determined as he is determined to live up to his name, but can be manipulated and turn coward easily, while Thorn the baboon is confident when he tries to earn a high rank in his troop, yet careful, and also very clever. Sky the elephant is kindhearted yet brave when there is danger when she is travelling to the "Plain of Our Ancestors".
  • Figurative Language
  • The conflict with Fearless is him being away from his pride in which can leave him to die alone, along with almost getting killed by cheetahs. Thorn's conflicts revolves around him wanting to be in a high position in his troop, and letting his emotions get the better of him when he falls in love with Berry. Sky's conflict involves the visions she sees when she read her mother's bones and her mother's death, and could have starved to death if the rest of the herd hadn't taken care of her.
  • The scene above is the rising action scene. Fearless, Sky and Thorn all went to the Great Mother, and that was when they all met each other. They were the ones in Skywatcher's prophecy, and when the Great Mother was found dead, was the first tear in the truce.
  • "Narrowing her ancient eyes, she let her gaze trail over the great yellow-grass sea, and pinpointed at last where it met the endless blue sky in a shimmering line of light," is a great example of hyperbole.
