  • Charles
  • Charles seems to be a very bad kid from the start. He is fresh to the teacher, hits the teacher, bounces a see-saw on a girl's head, pounds his feet on the floor, throws chalk, yells, kicked the teacher's freind, makes a little girl say a very bad word, and says bad words himself. When Laurie's mother goes to see the teacher, she learns that Charles was a figment of Laurie's immagination and was an excuse for Lauire's own bad behavior.
  • Narrator/Laurie's mom
  • The narrator seems to be Laurie's mom and a consistant part in the story itself. From talking to Laurie to talking to the teacher, she seems to always be ready to step into Laurie's life. She goes to a parent-teacher conference and learns that Charles was not real and just Laurie's excuse for his own bad behavior.
  • Laurie's dad
  • Laurie's dad is the first to experiance Laurie's cruelty when Laurie comes home from kindergarton and says gee, your dumb. Laurie's dad dosen't seem to care much for Laurie, exept for side comments about Charles, such as Bound to be people like Charles in the world. Might as well meet them now as later.” and “Ask her what happened to Charles.
  • Teacher
  • The teacher is the one that has suffered the most from Charles/Laurie, she has had to deal with all the diffrent things that Charles/Laurie has done.
