  • Can you please pass the Sugar Act? Its only going to lower tax on molasses. But we need to raise money for how much of it we lost during the French and Indian war.

  • Imaginary line goes along the Appalachian Mountains, colonists couldn't settle west of the line. Britain sent troops to enforce this, most of the troops would end up along the Atlantic Coast in cities. Many Colonists would just ignore the Proclamation and move westward.

  • These new acts will raise taxes on glass, paper, and tea. It will also give Customs Officials the ability to search anywhere.
  • The French and Indian War costs Britain a lot of money, they needed to raise money to pay their debts. British Prime Minister, George Greenville asked Parliament to pass the Sugar Act in 1764, raising a tax on molasses...or lowering it. The tax was previously unenforced, now it was expected to be enforced. Stamp Act of 1765-Almost every paper item had to have a stamp on it, including newspapers, legal documents and even playing cards.

  • The colonists were furious, even though they paid less taxes then British citizens. Colonists referenced the Magna Carta, claiming representation. These acts united the people throughout all of the colonies. Eventually they agreed to Boycott British goods. In 1766 Parliament repealed the Stamp Act.

  • In 1767 a new set of taxes were passed on glass, paper, other goods and tea. These acts cut down on smuggling, giving Customs officials the ability to search anywhere.

March 5, 1770 A group of rowdy Bostonians started shouting at British Soldiers, eventually throwing rocks and ice at the soldiers who panicked and fired into the crowd. The first person killed was Chrispus Attucks
  • December 16,1773 in Boston Harbor angry colonists dressed as Native Americans in the night. They would board three ships holding tea, they would dump 342 chests of tea into the harbor
