  • *There was no option for the historical Confederate flag.
  • On April 12, 1861, Confederate soldiers would fire on the Union held fort of Fort Sumter, situated in the Confederate state of South Carolina. The attack followed a notice sent by Lincoln that he would be sending a supply ship to the under supplied fort. The Confederates demanded the Fort's surrender, and when the Union refused, they opened fire on the fort. No men died, however the battle resulted in a Confederate victory, and the end of a peaceful resolution to the Civil War.
  • On July 21 of 1861, the Union would attempt to invade the town of Manassas, in what would later be known as the first battle of Bull Run, the first maor battle of the Civil War. Mcdowell and 30k Union soldiers met Confederate General 'Stonewall' Jackson. Civilians gathered around the battlefield to watch, not knowing how deadly this war would become. During the battle, the Union soldiers became overwhelmed and retreated. The first battle of the Civil War was a Confederate victory, and it showed the Union that this would not be the quick war that they thought it would be.
  • On the 24th of April, 1862, following the capture of the Confederate forts of Jackson and St. Philip, Union General Farragut and Union forces would demand the Confederate held city of New Orleans. Because the Confederates had lost two of their forts already and because they were outnumbered by the Union, they would be left with no choice but to surrender to the Union. This would result in the largest city in the whole of the Confederacy falling to the Union.
  • Between the 6th and 7th of April, Union forces led by General Grant would attempt to secure a part of the east of the Mississippi River, as per a part of the Anaconda Plan. They were met by Confederate resistance led by General Johnston, resulting in the Battle of Shiloh. In the end, the Union won, as the Confederates were driven back. However, the battle would result in 23,000 deaths. Grant would become known as the 'Butcher of Shiloh', however Lincoln would not fire him, for Grant was a general who won.
  • From the first to the third of July, Union and Confederate forces would fight in the town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. This battle would follow Confederate General Grant's attempted invasion of the Union. However, he was met Union resistance led by General Meade. In the resulting battle, the Union would overwhelm the Confederates, and they'd eventually retreat. However, General Meade would choose not to pursue the fleeing Confederates. Following the battle, Lincoln would give the Gettysburg Address.
  • In 1864-1865, the later years of the Civil War, Union General Sherman would begin a campaign to split the Confederate states in half once again. He intended to accomplish this by moving from west to east, moving to the Atlantic Ocean and wreaking havoc as he went. As he moved, the Union tore up Confederate railroads and freed many slaves.
