  • I want help :(
  • The Commencement
  • The Cause
  • This 16 year old kid is a junior in high school whom suffers from a mental illness known as major depressive disorder. He hated the feeling of this horrible illness so he decided to seek some help.
  • The Effect
  • He has been in this mental state for approximately 7 months now. When he walks he's sad, when he eats he's sad, whenever he does something he's sad. So what is MDD you might ask? Well thats what I'm here to talk to you about.
  • The Stigma
  • MDD or better known as Major Depressive Disorder is a certain mood disorder which causes a constant sense of sadness loss of interest. Some symptoms can be angry outbursts, sadness, hopelessness, frustration, sleep issues (such as insomnia or sleeping too much), lack of energy, weight loss/gain due to change of appetite, ect. It is a mental illness that can not only affect you but also the people around you.
  • The Help
  • Help is available, speak with someone today. Suicide Hotline: 800-273-8255
  • Your friends will start to worry for you, as well as your family. Your teachers could get mad at you for not doing work because they don't understand how you're feeling. These are only two of many reasons how mental illness can affect those around you. Now I'll talk about how people, including this kid, can get the feeling that they no longer want to have a mental illness. A stigma.
  • A stigma is the mark of disgrace associated with a certain quality of someone that they wish to change. You can also feel this about yourself, which is known as a self-stigma. Two examples from this occurring would be 1: the things people say to you, causing you to think you want to feel better, which is good. Another example is an example from a self-stigma and that is the feeling that you don't want to feel the way you do, so you try to change or seek help. That is what happened to this kid at the beginning of this story.
  • Now, I would like to talk to you about the importance of seeking help when in such a horrible mental state. Family friends, for most people, are the only people in the world that they can trust to talk about their feelings with. They will help you through your rough times, do as much as they can to cheer you up, and many other things to help you. This kid has expressed his emotions to his family friends and he's feeling so much better.
