- Good day everyone! I'm Francine Nicole De Veyra, and today we will going to do an experiment.
- This experiment is called "lava lamp".
- The objectives of these experiment are:To explore the relationship between oil and water n terms of densityTo observe a chemical reaction between acid and a base.
- Clear bottleWaterVegetable oilFizzing tabletsFood Coloring
- These are the materials that we are going to use
- First procedure
- Wait a few moments and watch as the oil and water separates...
- We can observed that the oil and water doesn't mix with each other. Because oil is less dense than water, it always float in top of water
- Fill the bottle up with water about 1/4th full. Pour the vegetable oil into the bottle until is almost full
- Add a few drops of your food coloring. Watch the color make its way through the oil
- The last step is to break your fizzy tablet in half and drop part of it into the bottle. Watch the bubble blobs form.
- The oil floats on top of the water because it is less dense or lighter than water. The food coloring has the same density as the water so it sink through the oil and mixes with the water. When you add the tablet it sinks to the bottom then starts to dissolve. As it dissolves it makes gas, carbon dioxide.

- When I drop the tablet in the water, they mix and react, forming carbon dioxide gas which bubbles up to the surface of water
