  • How can I as an educator make this happen in my classroom and school?

  • By modeling attitudes, values, and behaviors, that promote democratic practice and participation in the classroom.
  • Through the use of group work activities, students are able to learn from their classmates, and get to know each other more!

  • An inclusive classroom provides students the chance to develop their social relationship skills and their ability to have positive interactions with others.
  • Why/how is this standard so significant in our practices as educators?
  • Student's respect and understanding of others increase when they are in a classroom of diverse students from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Students not only come from diverse backgrounds, ethnicities, race, and gender, but students also bring different talents and styles of learning. All students should have the opportunity to learn in a way that works for them and they should be able to showcase their talents.
  • Get to know your students. Invest time to focus on getting to know your students. The simple gesture of addressing a student by their name demonstrates care and concern. You can do this throughclassroom icebreaker.
  • How can I strive toward this specific standard? THERE ARE MANY WAYS!!
  • Establish respect for the values of diverse peoples by using specific examples. Examples that demonstrate a respect and appreciation for diverse peoples and cultures. Use language that is gender neutral or takes into consideration the gender identity of students.
  • Provide opportunities for students to share their own experiences and perspectives.
