  • Glisser: 1
  • Hubris
  • Nonsense!
  • Macbeth shall not be vanquished until Birnam wood marches to Dunsinane.
  • No man born of woman shall harm Macbeth.
  • Beware of Macduff, Thane of Fife!
  • This picture shows Macbeth reacting to the three apparitions and their prophecies. It shows an example of hubris because he is excessively confident in his security and how he is untouchable.
  • Glisser: 2
  • Hamartia
  • This picture shows Macbeth killing King Duncan. It is an example of Hamartia because it is an action made by Macbeth that starts his downfall slowly. He started his own downfall by killing the king when he shouldn't have.
  • Glisser: 3
  • Peripeteia
  • Do my eyes deceive me?!?
  • This picture shows Macbeth seeing the ghost of Banquo at the dinner table. It shows an example of peripeteia because it shows a tragic flaw in his character that would be one of the causes of his downfall. His guilt was his biggest flaw.
  • Glisser: 4
  • Anagnorisis
  • I was ripped from my mother's womb untimely! Therefore, I am not born of woman!
  • This picture shows Macbeth finding out that Macduff wasn't actually born of woman. This is an example of anagnorisis because Macbeth finally comes to realization that his fate is sealed when he learns that Macduff was born from c-section, meaning he wasn't technically born from woman.
  • Glisser: 5
  • Catharsis
  • I declare you king of Scotland!
  • This picture shows Macduff handing Malcolm Macbeths head. This is an example of catharsis because it is a special moment that would cause a reaction in the crowd. Showing a human head in a play isn't normal, so the crowd would emit mixed reactions and emotions towards this scene.
