- The Sinking of Maine was a battleship called the Maine that President William McKinley sent when conditions in Cuba worsened in 1898. It was to help protect American citizens and interests in Cuba. On February 15th, 1898, a huge explosion caused the Maine to sink in Havana Harbor. Many Americans blamed Spain for this explosion, and for this, they wanted to go to war.

- The Spanish American War
- The Spanish American War was fought between the United States and Spain in 1898, it was fought largely for the independence of Cuba. The war began on April 25th, 1898 when the United States declared war on Spain. During the war, the United States needed to get soldiers to help fight into the war, so they got a group of volunteers that included cowboys, ranchers, and outdoorsmen. They had earned the nickname "Rough Riders" and they were led by Theodore Roosevelt. The fighting ended with a U.S. victory three and a half months later on August 12th, 1898.

- The Russian Revolution took place in 1917 when the peasants and working class people of Russia revolted against the government of Tsar Nicholas II. They were led by Vladimir Lenin and a group of revolutionaries called the Bolsheviks, the new communist group created the country of the Soviet Union. During the period time before the Russia Revolution, life for the working class people and the peasants was difficult. They worked for little pay, often went without food, and were exposed to dangerous working conditions. The artistocrat class treated the peasants like slaves, giving them few rights under the law and treating them almost like animals. Russia experienced a civil war between the Bolsheviks, also called the red army, and the anti-Bolksheviks, white army, and the Bolsheviks won.
