- ExpositionIt was about 11:00 at night, and Mrs. Jones was walking alone, when Roger ran up behind her and tried to steal her purse (pocketbook)

- ConflictRoger tries to steal Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones purse and run, but he falls down. Mrs. Jones talks to him and he lies about trying to steal.
- It's okay Roger, we've all made mistakes in our lives too, just don't behave like that next time
- Yes'm, but it wasn't my intention to steal your pocketbook!
- Pick up my pocketbook, boy, and give it here, ain't you ashamed of yourself!
- Rising ActionMrs. Jones grabs Roger and drags him back to her house. Roger says he's sorry many times. She takes him to her house, tells him to wash his face, and cooks him dinner. He explains he wants money for blue suede shoes
- Come with me young man!
- ClimaxMrs. Jones leaves Roger alone while she cooks, and he tries to decide whether he should run or stay. He stays and does not run away.
- Should I run or stay?
- Falling ActionRoger learns that Mrs. Jones has made mistakes in her life too. They talk about this over dinner. She ells him not to lie or steal anymore.
- ResolutionMrs. Jones gives Roger the ten dollars to buy blue suede shoes and let;s him leave.
