  • So, if these celebrities are taking such short flights that is a quarter of the annual footprint of the average person, why is it blamed on us the people and not them?
  • Kylie Jenner is not the first to do this though. Other celebrities such as Drake (18 min flight), Kenny Chesney (20 min), and the actor Mark Wahlberg (23 min) have also been caught.
  • The reason we activists stress over this so much is because when fossil fuels are burned, they release large amounts of carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas, into the air. Greenhouse gases trap heat in our atmosphere, causing global warming. Global warming is when the temperature of the earth warms up which melts our glaciers, raises sea levels, and floods our cities. Not only that but, the floods have become more severe over the years that we will run out of places to live. That's why if we protect the earth, it will protect us back.
  • The recent situation with Sprite changing the color of their bottles is an example of narrative bias where they try to appear more inclusive towards helping the climate by making it sound more than it is.
  • Now there are companies out there that do help towards cutting down their footprint on this earth, but a lot of the times it is just green washing.
  • As Kate Melges states in the article, Coca-Cola’s recent announcement is yet another blatant greenwashing attempt from one of the world’s worst plastic polluters... We are in the midst of a massive plastic pollution crisis and we cannot recycle our way out of it.
  • An article by Paige Bennet titled The Real Reason Sprite is ditching its green bottle brings attention that despite Coca-Cola claiming that the new clear bottle is to increase the recyclability of the bottles, it does not matter since the company is still producing billions of single-use plastic bottles per year.
  • The real reason behind their new look is that Sprite bottles are very recognizable in landfills. Every other bottle is clear while theirs is green. So instead of trying to fix their excessive bottle production, they instead make themselves less recognizable but label it as an increase in recyclability
  • We as a society have to start blaming large companies for the harm they create on this earth and towards our environment instead of them changing the script on us. An article by The Guardian titled Just 100 Companies responsible for 71% of global emissions gives us all the reasons why we need to take action. Of course, we still have to do our part and cut down as much as we can on our carbon footprints ourselves too but, we have to stop this ever-growing business that is ruining us all and leading us to our deaths.
