- The Rise of The Roman Republic from a Plehbians perspective.
- In 509 B.C.E, the Patricians rebelled against the last Etruscan king and drove him out of power. Then they created a republic. They said they would elect officials to govern for the people. To the Patricians, that meant themselves, and not us, the Plebeians.
- We became angry that the Patricians had all the power while we had none. So In 494 B.C.E., we decided to protest against the Patricians for equality. So we marched out of the city and camped on a hill. We wouldn't come back until the Patricians met our requests. Rome quickly started falling apart when we left, so the Patricians had no choice but to compromise with us.
- We kept protesting for political equality. We asked that the Patricians wrote down the laws somehow to ensure that they couldn't change them at will against us. Around the year 451 B.C.E, the Patricians agreed. The laws were published on tablets named The Twelve Tables.
- In 367 B.C.E., a new law was made stating that one of the two councils had to be Plebeian. This was a great change for the Roman government. We had earned much more rights then before, but we still had less then the Patricians. I was excited to hear that Plebians were starting to gain equality.
- In the year of 287 B.C.E., we finally earned the right to pass laws to all Roman citizens. Now assemblies of all Roman citizens could approve or reject laws. After 200 years, we had finally won our rights to equality. My family and I, and all the rest of the Plebeians, were very happy about how much life had changed for the better.
