JUSTIFICATION: This is an important scene because Hades leads the souls of all the dead suitors and important warriors like Achilles and Agamemnon. This is the opening scene of the book and displays how Odysseus served justice and revenge to the suitors.
"Now Cyllenian Hermes called away the suitor's ghosts... with a wave of this he stirred and led then on and the ghosts trailed after with high thin cries in the depthis of a dark haunted cave" (24.1-2, 5)
This is an important scene because it displays Odysseus's reunion with his family. This is also an event where it marks a near-war encounter with the family's suitors.
"Odysseus..." Laertes, catching his breath, found words to answer. You-you're really my son, Odysseus, home at last?" (24.366-367).
This scene is important because it truly ends The Odyssey. It also proves Odysseus's foreshadowing was correct in that the suitor's family was going to try and get revenge on him.
"Hold back, you men of Ithaca, back from brutal war! Break off-shed no more blood-make peace at once!" (24.585-586).
