Hey there, I’m Dwayne the igneous rock, and I just got done with my extremely hot (and transformative) lava bath, let me tell you a story while I'm sitting here cooling down.
To do this-I'd like to show you how I got here
It all began when I was a fresh pile of sediment- that’s right, I wasn’t always an igneous rock.
I was a composition of a lot of minerals -waiting thousands of years -getting piled under other young sediments and pressured by their weight until I became a sedimentary rock.
Now I was solid- and had these beautiful shines of different minerals cemented in me. My friends nicknamed me sandstone.
Life was good, until I was forced further underground.
I wish you could’ve seen me- I was beautiful, prime of my life, these striations of different minerals crystallized in a thin layer so it looked like all my minerals were layered on top of each other. I was a rock of the metamorphic stage, they called me quartzite in those days.
In the intense temperatures of the mantle of the earth, I was compacted even more, boy it was hot and tight.
You’re probably more familiar with this next bit- I sure as heck wasn’t.
While some of my buddies got to get pushed up by tectonic uplift and got to become a mountain, I got pushed even further underground.
