- The Sultan of Cairo (Egypt) demands that Mansa Musa appear before him. Mansa Musa is concerned about the delay but agrees.
- Both leaders expect the other to kneel. Mansa Musa feels that he is more rich and powerful than the sultan.
- His advisor suggests that Mansa Musa kneel before God – the only one more power that both leaders.
- Mansa Musa kneels before God. The sultan is pleased. He respects Mansa Musa for finding a solution that saved them both from humiliation.
- Mansa Musa was the wealthiest king ever. He made Timbuctoo the center of Islamic teaching and culture. “The Lion of Mali bowed before none but God.”
