August 1939: TheNazi-Soviet Nonaggression Pact was signed to ensure that the Allies wouldn't sign alliance with the Soviet Union. Hitler also signed this pact to avoid a two-front war.
September 1, 1939: Germany invades Poland. This causes Great Britain and France to wage war on Germany.
